Recio wins two Houston Press Club Awards

National Press Club member Maria Recio won two Lone Star Awards from the Houston Press Club for her coverage of presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. The 2017 awards were announced June 10, recognizing achievement for journalism in Texas.

Recio was the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Washington bureau chief and a member of the McClatchy Washington bureau until the end of last year. She is now a freelancer writing about politics for various publications, including the Austin American-Statesman, and a writer on arts and culture.
