Reserve now for annual Civil War trip to Brandy Station battlefield, July 15

Seats are still available for the National Press Club’s annual Civil War battlefield trip on Saturday, July 15, to Brandy Station, Virginia.

Reservations are required and can be made with Suzanne Struglinski at 202-662-7516 or [email protected]. There is no charge for attendees, but Club members are asked to bring only one guest each.

Club members and guests will depart by bus from the National Press Building at 8:30 a.m., returning at approximately 4:30 p.m. The tour will be led by a National Park Service guide who is an expert on the battle.

The largest cavalry engagement of the Civil War, the battle occurred on June 9, 1863, as Confederate forces under Gen. Robert E. Lee were moving north toward Gettysburg. The battle involved some 20,000 troops, 17,000 of them cavalry. Key parts in the battle were played by the best Union cavalry general, John Buford, and famed Confederate cavalry leader Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart. The all-day fighting involved fierce, close-in combat spread over large tracts of land.

The tour is hosted by the Civil War Trust pursuant to a longstanding payment-in-kind arrangement with the Club.
