Runners, supporters needed for Foley Freedom Run on Oct. 17 to promote press freedom

Support press freedom and journalist safety by joining the National Press Club team for the 6th Annual Foley Freedom Run on Saturday, Oct. 17. 

Registration costs $40 and includes a t-shirt.

Money raised by the event supports the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation, and the Club has set a goal of raising $2,500.

The foundation, named for Jim Foley, helps advocate for the freedom of all Americans held hostage abroad and promotes the safety of journalists worldwide. Foley, a freelance journalist and videographer who was kidnapped on Nov. 22, 2012 while covering the Syrian civil war from northwestern Syria. He was murdered by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in August 2014.

Runners and walkers of any speed and ability are welcome, and will run individual or in small groups due to the prohibition on large gatherings due to COVID19.

The "race" can be run at the venue of your choice between 10 a.m. and noon on Oct. 17. Participants are encouraged to do a full 5K, but shorter distances are acceptable. Members can share their race photos on Facebook and other social media sites with the official #irunforjim and #TeamPressClub hashtags.
