Scholarship Team seeks judges

The National Press Club Scholarship Team needs your help! We will be judging for the Zimmerman Award and the Award for Diversity in Journalism during the week of Aug. 17. These awards have been life-changing for past recipients, and you can be a part of that experience  by helping review the terrific entries we have received for both awards.

Because of the pandemic, we are going to decide winners virtually this year. We will judge the awards on two different days, using sets of Zoom groups. The judging will likely be conducted over a two-hour period either in the late afternoon or early evening during the week, or the morning of Saturday, Aug. 22. It will be a learning experience for all of us.

The Richard G. Zimmerman Scholarship is $5,000 grant to help an incoming college freshman pursue journalism.

The Julie Schoo Diversity in Journalism Award is a $20,000 scholarship over four years for an incoming college freshman who is committed to expanding news coverage of marginalized groups and issues.
