Shadid's 'House of Stone' on tap for Books & Brunch, Aug. 17

National Press Club's Books & Brunch will discuss Anthony Shadid's "House of Stone" at its meeting Aug. 17 at noon in the Fourth Estate restaurant.

All members are welcome to join the discussion. A la carte items are available for purchase from the Fourth Estate's brunch menu.

"House of Stone: A Memoir of Home, Family, and a Lost Middle East" is the story of a battle-scarred home and a war correspondent s jostled spirit, and of how reconstructing the one came to fortify the other, Amazon writes on its website.

Shadid, who won two Pulitzer Prizes, died in February 2012 of an acute asthma attack while trying to leave Syria.

Want to plan ahead for Books & Brunch's September gathering? Read “Life and Death are Wearing Me Out,” a novel by Mo Yan, for the Sept. 21 meeting in the Club’s Fourth Estate Restaurant. Yan won the Nobel Prize for literature in 2012.
