Softball team splits double header for first loss of season

The National Press Club softball team fell from the ranks of the undefeated after splitting a double-header on Saturday.

Big Blue took game one against the Discovery Channel, 16-8, before falling to CNN, 12-11, in a tightly contested thriller. CNN is now the only undefeated team in the league.

In game one, the power switch was turned on early. John Domen, Mike Young and Reuben Miller each hit homeruns. Andy Medici continued his hot hitting, going 3-3, while Katy Steinmetz also swung the bat well in her debut with the team.

In game two, after finally holding CNN scoreless in the seventh-inning to stay within two runs, the Club's seventh-inning rally fell short, as the tying run was stranded when a hard liner was caught to end the game. Ted Costigan went 4-4 with three runs. Ken Giglio finished 3-4.

Next week, the Club team faces three-time defending champion WRC followed by Albritton. Details to come Monday night.
