TAPS founder to address Post 20 Thursday, March 13

Bonnie Carroll, president and founder of the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), a national program providing support to persons affected by the death of those serving in or supporting the armed forces, will address the Thursday, March 13, luncheon meeting of the Club's American Legion Post 20.

Speaker portions of Post meetings, which begin at 12:15 in the McClendon Room, are open to all Club members.

Carroll founded TAPS after her husband, Brig. Gen. Tom Carroll, died in a 1992 plane crash. She is a major in the Air Force Reserve and served in Iraq as deputy senior adviser for programs in the Ministry of Communications. She recently co-chaired the Department of Defense Task Force on the Prevention of Suicide in the Armed Forces.

Her career has included jobs on Capitol Hill and the White House. She serves on the Advisory Committee on Disability Compensation at the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Board of Directors of the Association of Death Education and Counseling. She was selected a "Washingtonian of the Year" by Washingtonian Magazine in 2009 for her work with TAPS.
