Those who write about news business should prepare entries for Arthur Rowse Award

There is plenty of good journalism about the media and the news business these days, and if you worked on some of those stories in 2020, please prepare to enter your work for the Arthur Rowse Award for Press Criticism in the National Press Club’s journalism contest.

The deadline for entries in the contest is April 15. The Rowse Award is offered for print and broadcast entries, and each has a $750 prize.

Entries can include up to 5 articles or broadcasts (not necessarily in the same outlet) and must be accompanied by a letter explaining the significance of the work and any subsequent actions resulting from its publication or airing.

The award is sponsored by Arthur E. "Ted" Rowse, former staff editor at the Washington Post and U.S. News & World Report.

These awards honor excellence in examining the essential role of the news media in a free society. Entries should focus especially on the performance of journalists in the face of opposition and misunderstanding.

The cost of an entry is free for Press Club members, and $75 for non-members.

The contest also includes categories for consumer news, politics, online journalism, breaking news, photos, coverage of elderly issues, stories about animals and their well-being, and other issues. The awards will be presented this summer by the Club.

Details of the awards and how to enter the contest can be found here.
