UN climate negotiators have sought unsuccessfully to win "loss and damage" compensation for countries most affected by flooding and other disasters wrought by climate change from countries that are the biggest greenhouse gas contributors. Nakate and several other climate activists plan to press the issue at the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt in November.

This Headliners event is open to credentialed media and Club members, but registration is required. This event is both in-person and viewable via livestream on the Club’s website at www.press.org

Nakate, inspired by Greta Thunberg, is Uganda's first youth climate striker. She went on to found the Rise Up Movement, an organization of young people who protest for climate action across Africa. Nakate addressed the UN General Assembly in September.

Remarks from Nakate will be followed by a question-and-answer session. To submit a question via email, put CLIMATE in the subject line and email to [email protected]
