Tomorrow: Run for Austin and then eat pancakes

Today's the last day to register for the 3rd annual Run For Austin Virtual 5K, which is taking place tomorrow, Nov. 18.

Runners and walkers will lace up all over the world to raise awareness for journalists Austin Tice and Evan Gershkovich, with special meet-ups here in D.C. and in Tice’s hometown of Houston.

The National Press Club Board of Governors plans to host (and serve up pancakes!) at an in-person pancake breakfast at the Club from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for runners and spectators alike. If you want to participate in the pancake breakfast only, you can sign up here.

Routes and running meet-up information will be emailed to registered participants in advance of the virtual race. If you can’t make a meet-up, we encourage you to share your run on social media using the hashtags #BringAustinHome and #IStandWithEvan. Tag the National Press Club at @PressClubDC.

In September, Club President Eileen O’Reilly called on every Club member to register. “I’m asking you to run so that we can show the U.S. government the strong support we have in our demands that it do more for these journalists.”

It is $40 to register for the run, and $15 for the Pancake Breakfast. Proceeds go to the Austin Tice fund which holds money collected from businesses and individual donors that want to support the safe return of a journalist, veteran Marine Corps captain, and a beloved son taken in Syria in August 2012.The fund supplements the FBI reward for information leading to Tice's safe return, or if no reward is given, to help Tice transition back to his life after detention. In addition, a small portion of the funds will be used to support the Tice family’s travel and advocacy efforts.
