In today’s world of instant information dissemination, news on everything from corporate misbehavior and financial collapses to politics and international incidents spreads like wildfire. Every day, ordinary people use their mobile phones to capture video of situations as they are unfolding, with those images getting immediately blasted around the world on social media. Communicators are called to help when their companies, organizations, and clients face these types of difficult and challenging issues. Steve Honig, a Communicator member based in Los Angeles who has handled numerous crises for individuals and organizations for the past 35 years, will moderate the panel. He will be joined by fellow Washington-based Club members Karen Naumann, an award-winning communications educator, executive, and author, and Edward Segal, a crisis management/crisis communication author, journalist, and podcast host. The panel will discuss several best practices in crisis communications management, including selecting communications vehicles to quickly reach the public, effectively communicating a wrongdoing, and averting a crisis or minimizing damage.
