Two Broadcasters to Lead Board of Governors

The Club's Board of Governors has unanimously elected Ken Mellgren as chair and Jeff Ballou as vice chair for 2014.

Mellgren has served on the board for two years and was vice chair last year. He was chairman of the Club’s Broadcast Committee for four years and has been a key player in the Club’s strategic planning, its Broadcast Task Force and the History and Heritage Committee.

Mellgren retired from the Associated Press Broadcast Division after 16 years in Washington. He previously worked for WRC-AM in Washington, Cox Broadcasting and WJIB i Boston.

Ballou has begun his second term on the NPC Board and first as vice chair. During his first term, he served as liaison to the International Correspondents and Photography committees. He has served on several Club committees, including Speakers, and has led the Washington Association of Black Journalists.

Nearing a quarter-century in journalism, he is a news editor with Al Jazeera. Previous to that. he worked at WTTG with former NPC governor Patrick McGrath, CONUS Communications, C-SPAN, National Pubic Radio, WAMU-FM and WTOP-AM.
