The relationship between the United States and China is fast emerging as the number one American foreign policy priority, and it is the subject of the latest edition of Update-1, the National Press Club podcast.

In this episode, Club Broadcast/Podcast Team member Lincoln Smith speaks with Jonathan Ward, an internationally recognized expert on Chinese global strategy. Ward discusses the state of press freedom in Hong Kong, China's objectives, how China intends to get what it wants and how the U.S. should respond.

After earning his Ph.D. at the University of Oxford and undergraduate degree at Columbia University, Ward founded Atlas Organization, a consultancy based in Washington, D.C. and New York. He has worked with the U.S. Department of Defense and American companies on China's long-term strategy.

Broadcast/Podcast Team co-vice chair Mike Hempen produces Update-1. The podcast can be heard on the Club website or on iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn and Spotify by searching for "NPC Update-1."
