U.S.-Jamaica cooperation is subject of prime minister's talk April 1

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew HolnessPrime Minister Andrew Holness of Jamaica plans to address opportunities for U.S.-Jamaica cooperation at a National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 1.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Jamaican independence and 60 years of diplomatic relations with the United States. Holness plans to discuss the development of a socio-economic model of cooperation with the U.S. to promote prosperity for the island nation while also establishing a secure "third border" for the U.S.

Holness said this week during a visit by Prince William and his wife, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, that Jamaica intends to cut ties to the British monarch to become fully independent.
