This Week in National Press Club history

November 11, 2012: As the nation observes Veterans Day -- originally named Armistice Day by National Press Club associate member and U.S. President Woodrow Wilson in November 1919 to note the end of World War One on Nov. 11, 1918 -- the Club salutes its many members, past and present, who have bravely served our country in the armed services in the wars that followed the “war to end all wars.” The salute goes particularly to veterans of World War II, the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in the nation’s history.

This Week In National Press Club History is brought to you by the History & Heritage Committee, which preserves and revitalizes the Club’s history through displays (see the current impressive lobby display on this week’s Book Fair), panel discussions, events, and its long-standing oral history project.

Compiled by Elizabeth Smith Brownstein, with material from the Club’s archives, and “Reliable Sources: 100 years at the National Press Club.”
