This Week in NPC History

Aug. 24, 1925: A contract is signed for the construction of a new National Press Club building after three moves in 18 years, to become what was at that time the largest privately owned office building in Washington.

Aug. 25, 1927: New tenants move into the new building at the corner of F and 14th Streets NW, two years after being told it couldn’t be done.

Aug. 27, 1976: Champion boxer Muhammad Ali appears with his challenger, Ken Norton, at a packed NPC luncheon one week before their Yankee Stadium fight.

This Week in National Press Club History is brought to you by the History and Heritage Committee, which preserves and revitalizes the Club’s history through displays, panel discussions, events, lectures, and the oral history project.
