What does a journalist do? Tell the Dept. of Labor

The Dept. of Labor is seeking help from National Press Club journalist members for a project designed to accurately describe their occupation.

RTI International, the contractor for the project, is asking Club journalist members to help to populate the O*NET database with essential data about reporters that will help shape the way the occupation is described to millions of job seekers, educators and business leaders.

Qualified volunteers will be asked to complete brief, objective questionnaires about the tasks, work context and knowledge requirements of their occupation.

RTI needs Club members who have at least 5 years experience as a practicing or supervising reporter and/or correspondent and are still performing in the occupation.

If you would like to participate or have questions, please contact Chris Fine, RTI business liaison ([email protected], 877-233-7348, x112).

"By participating, Club members will contribute to a key resource by providing our nation with continuously updated occupational information," Fine said. "This is an excellent opportunity for to have input as to how their profession is presented."
