Will the use of artificial intelligence save journalism? Register for March 26 program

Join Francesco Marconi, who helped lead the development of artificial intelligence in journalism for The Wall Street Journal and the Associated Press, for a perspective on the potential of these technologies.

Registration is open for this online program, presented by the National Press Club Journalism Institute and the National Press Club’s Communicators Team. It will run from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 26.

Marconi will explain how journalists and communication professionals can avoid pitfalls while taking advantage of the possibilities AI provides to develop new ways of telling stories and connecting with audiences.

Participants will learn how AI is being used and will be used by journalists and communicators; the ethics of AI, particularly related to diversity, equity and representation; and the role of AI in the spread of misinformation and fake news

Marconi is the co-founder of information company Applied XL, recognized by Fast Company’s 2020 Innovation by Design Awards. He was previously led a team of data scientists and computational journalists developing data tools for the Journal newsroom. Before then, he worked at the AP, where he helped lead content automation and AI efforts.

The National Press Club Journalism Institute promotes an engaged global citizenry through an independent and free press, and equips journalists with skills and standards to inform the public in ways that inspire civic engagement. The institute has added online programming, a daily newsletter, a weekly writing group, and other support for journalists since the pandemic started.

The institute has waived fees for all of its services due to the pandemic, saving participants tens of thousands of dollars. Please consider donating whatever you can.
